House Update - in Technicolor!

First of all, Happy Thanksgiving! I am blogging from the rental house in frosty, stinky Sioux Center. Inside the house, though, it smells like TURKEY. See Exhibit A (the roaster sitting right next to the front door).

This is the scene. Everyone is conserving energy for the feast that will take place as soon as Amy and Seth get here.

Earlier today we went to check out the house progress. Murray was there, too.

It was really bright out.

Miles and Andrew fought.

The bricks for the exterior have arrived!

The rooms have been painted! Binks did a great job picking out her wall colors, and the boys got to choose some as well.
Ty's basement bedroom is a special shade of orange.

Upstairs, boys mill about the construction debris.

Kitchen pantry in progress.

Basement.

Dad unloading Mom's wine chiller. Swanky.

More fancy orange. Orange is so hot right now.

Mom's camera needs some SERIOUS lens-cleaning attention.

Micah should not be playing with this.

Andrew is a goofball.

Lots of things to trip on.

Nook for a giant flatscreen!

Heavenly view of the new golf course.

Master bedroom.

Front guest bedroom.

Incredible lens dust. And an art nook.

The living room's funky ceiling.

Another pretty blue front room.

Murray is like Andrew.

Red wall and sweet French doors in the den.

That's the update, for now! Del is working on the camera lens as we speak. :)

Here is Amy....you can see the house going up next to ours

Here is our brick....a close up

Looking to the front foyer

the garage is being used by the contractors to house a lot of their stuff

oh my, this was a fun thing to witness....the rest of the day(after watching Iowa beat Wisconsin on tv),w as spent out at the house with the guys putting in the necessary hole for the new , future basketball system. so Del takes shovels and Micah, Jason, TJ, and Seth out there to start digging the hole...which needs to be 4 feet deep. So  here is Del making the first cut or dig.

some diggers...many observers...... the trailer in the background belongs to the contractor who is building the house next to us....it sits right next to our driveway......

I t loooks like they are making a dent.......

Seth is really getting into it now....rolling up the pant legs.....and it is a real hole by now...

It was very laborious....took forever and so much work.....I spotted this gas auger in the garage and we decided to see if it could help us out a bit. It was kind of a piece....must have taken 100 pulls to get the thing to fire...and then hang on!!! it did help a bit, but it kept dying and in the end just took too much to get it started  and keep it going.

Seth is getting down in there...progress

eventually they had to hold on to whoever  was scooping the dirt out of the hole...here is Jason hanging on to Seth

TJ holding on to Micah

It is done!! a 4 foot deep hole...strong work .

And that is how we spent Sat afternoon 10-18-08. They are really working fast on the house again, so we will try to update again soon. Thanks Amy for putting everything on the site again.
